The NATURA 2000 Ecological Nook
Natura 2000 is a system of protected areas created by the member states of the European Union. It is intended for the protection of biological diversity and the individual areas are suggested according to accurately set criteria. Natura 2000 does not try to protect individual species but endangered types of environment. In order to fulfil this task in the most efficient way, natural biotopes have been mapped (or will be mapped) in all member states.
The method of the protection of an area incorporated in the Natura 2000 system is determined by each member state individually according to its own laws.
